Bulb Field Tour – Day 4 – Amsterdam 1/5/2011

My partner Susan left a comment regarding my last blog on this trip – She found it confusing when I referred at the end to having to get the bus home next day. However, it would not have been if we had been going home on the 1/5/2011 – as that was the day that holiday ended.  The confusion arises as it was also the day that we were originally booked to come on the Amsterdam to Rhine Cruise and we should have been travelling out from UK.  Yes is is confusing :) .  Suffice to say that along with two other couples we were staying on board to continue our Rhine adventure.

Our last trip out was the “Candle Light Canal Tour” – and  it was mad, as it took place on Queensday (see this link) – suffice to see the Dutch know how to party and have a good time.  This time on a quiet Sunday we decided to take a proper canal trip and it was like a ghost town at the start – but life soon returned to the canals.

We had intended to visit the museums so we took the museum trip – alas we did not get off we were enjoying the nice relaxing cruise on the canals. When we did get back to the ship for lunch we heard rumours of a problem with the ship.

MS Arlene @ Amsterdam Dock.
Little did we know that we would only have one more sailing on the ship and the Amsterdam – Rhine Cruise would turn into a coach holiday much to everyone’s disappointment.   We were advised that due to an oil leak in the prop shaft the boat would have to go into dry dock for repair as it was not allowed to sail on the Rhine with the leak.  Therefore the ship would make its way to the dockyard in the morning and we would disembark onto the coaches for a trip to Keukenhof thence return to the ship were hopefully it will have been repaired.
